Back up desktop and documents folder
It would be really useful if there was an option within box drive that would sync the users desktop documents and perhaps download folder to a folder within box.
I know users could just save the files on to box drive but that doesn't always happen (temp needed files etc) this would act as an almost auto back up feature.

Display warning if a document is open
Display a warning similar to read-only if another team member has a file open. Currently this is not possible without code installed at the individual PC level and there is no solution with MAC (just confirmed with support). The conflicting versions can be frustrating for teams and the tiny lock icon is just not a large enough warning when opening from box drive.
21 votesFor Office files stored in Box, we are enabling the capability coauthor in real-time with collaborators. This will eliminate issues that arise when creating conflict copies. For other files types that do not support coauthoring, we do not have a feature planned on our roadmap, to notify users when the file is locked outside of the lock icon that is displayed on the file in the Explorer/Finder view.
We will place this in our backlog as we continue evaluating ideas to improve Box Drive.
Please keep the feedback & use cases coming to help us prioritize this in the future!

Choose location for files marked for offline
Similar to Box Sync, would love to be able to choose a specific location for files marked for offline use in Box Drive. At least we could see the thumbnail previews.

Display more information in Upload Error message in Box Drive
It would be helpful to have more information shared in the Upload Error notification that’s displayed for admins when a user tries to upload content to a folder that has run out of storage. It would be helpful for the error message to display information such as account name, email, or login of the user. Currently, if an organization imposes storage quotas for their users, admins will receive this message anytime a user tries to upload content to a full folder. Having more information up front within the error message would save admins time in looking to find who the…

Block users from placing content into File Explorer locations that they don't have rights to within Box
The current user experience can be confusing to the user, because they are able to place files into File Explorer even though they don’t have rights within Box to write to that location. Box Drive does issue notices that the files are not syncing to the server; however, this can still create an issue for novice users, since the files still exist within File Explorer and allow the user to make changes to the files locally. It would be preferred if Box Drive blocked the user from placing anything into that location within File Explorer.

Allow users to select a folder when creating a new note in the notes console
When creating a new note from the notes app, you should allow users to select which folder the note lives in. It currently defaults to the root of the user's drive. Or improve upon the move note feature.

install and syncronize box in a chosen folder
I am windows user. I wanted to install box and syncronize my box files in my local D: drive, because my C: drive is full. Surprisingly, the installation process of Box app does not provide such an option (of selecting which drive to install Box to). It by default is installed on C: drive . This is very insane. Windows Users can choose to install which drive to install any app.
My C: drive is full, and I want to syncronise everything both in cloud and in local computer, but i cannot do so because C: drive is full, and…

Clear cache after set period of time
We'd like to enable users to install Box Drive but need to make sure the cached content is deleted when they leave even if Box Drive is not uninstalled from their device.

Copy file name and URL and path for shared link
The "Copy Shared Link" action in Box Drive (or Copy button in the Share pop-up dialog in the Web UI) should copy more than just the URL.
It should also have the file name and the current Box path so when I paste the link into a chat or email message, it has all the information the recipient will want.<path> > '<filename>"

Box Tools: Change Cache location
Ability to customise the location of Box Tools folder
We would like to have the feature to customise the location of Box Tools folders such as logs and cache folder. We want to have those under drive of other volume letter instead of the default location under C drive. This is because the storage size of C drive can be limited.

Support Emojis in file names
Box currently does not support Emojis in filenames, which means it won't sync if I drag and drop a file from my desktop into Box Drive. It would be great if Box would support the same characters in file names as current OSes

Notification for Incompatible Characters in file and folder names
We've run into issues with end users not being able to access content from Box Drive because the file or folder is created with a character that it is incompatible with Microsoft's file explorer.
Could you add in a pop-up visual in the web view that points out when you're using a character that will not be accessible from Box Drive?

There should be an easier way to view or export Box Drive errors especially problem files
One user had over 300 errors in Box Drive. When they try to review the list, they are unable to because the list keeps refreshing and starting at the top.
There is no option to print the page or export it. They can't even expand the size of the window. This makes it difficult for users to investigate the errors properly.

Box drive's system extension update
I am running BoxDrive version 2.23.422
After I upgrade my Mac (for example, from BigSur 11.5 -> 11.6), I get an error dialog the first time I try to open Box Drive. It says "Box Drive's system extension failed to load. Please make sure it has been enabled in System Preferences > Security & Privacy and then restart your computer. ....".
Reinstalling Box Drive and restarting the computer doesn't fix it. I found a workaround at https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360051323454-Box-Drive-s-system-extension-failed-to-load which fixes it, but I have to apply that workaround each time I upgrade my computer. The problem should either be fixed, or…

Remove shares no longer available after the owner was deactivated
We deactivated one user who retired. The folders he owned disappeared in Box Web for the shared users but they didn't disappear in Box drive, so users could still create files which were not saved in Box.
Could deactivated shares be updated very quickly in Box Drive to avoid that behavior please?4 votes
