  1. Allow Box Drive to be hidden if the computer is being accessed by someone who is not the user (remote login)

Currently, when an IT admin remotely logs into a user's computer, they can access Box Drive (and therefore all of Box) regardless of permissions, and can even download content to their own desktop. This presents a security risk for companies who allow their IT admins to access users' desktops.

  3. Allow Marking Folders as "Move Locked" To Prevent Users From Moving Certain Folders Regardless Of Permissions

Our admins are constantly dealing with users who accidentally drag and drop folders into other folders. This can have a big impact across our org, especially when a high level folder that's shared across the company is moved. Here's a common use case:

We have a top level Projects folder. That folder contains a subfolder for every organization we do business with. Those Organization folders then contain subfolders for individual projects. We'd like to be able to mark the Organization level folders as Move Locked so that our users don't accidentally move folders from one Organization into another. This happens…

Thank you for the suggestion. Box currently offers the ability to lock folders using the folder lock API - https://developer.box.com/reference/post-folder-locks/

We do not have a feature on our roadmap to expose this functionality from Box Drive. We will place this in our backlog as we continue evaluating ideas to improve Box Drive.

Please keep the feedback & use cases coming to help us prioritize this in the future!

  4. Box Drive:Stopping automatic version updates

I request that an automatic version update stop function be added.
When installing Box Drive on the template distribution PC, I would like to stop automatic version updates for a certain period of time in accordance with the distribution timing of the template distribution PC.

We also request that similar functionality be added to Box Tools in the following titles.
"Box Tools: Stopping automatic version updates"

  5. Native searching in Box on Windows 10

Previously, you were able to search natively using Box Drive and Box Sync on Windows 7. Windows 10 has been out for a good amount of time now and since Box had an update that removed Box Sync in favor of the Box Drive application, it has become much more difficult to search through thousands of files using the Ctrl+Shift+Alt+B shortcut as this panel does not show as many results as compared to previous versions of Box. I would like to see a feature in Box that will let me search through all my files in Box through File Explorer.

  7. Provide direct links for files listed in Problem Items window to the actual files in Box Drive.

When users have a large number of Problem Items (> 10) it can be a pain to find exactly where these Problem Items are. The search function doesn't work well for these files and you can't even copy the name of these files. A direct link to them would be most convenient.

  8. Download notification when opening a file

Currently. Download notification. Opening a file through Drive, which downloads the file on demand, and does not trigger this notification. For example, user A download a file through Drive, Folder owner B doesn't receive download notification although the folderset download notification in Folder settings. The download event should trigger sending notification. Expected Behavior: Opening a file through Drive, which downloads the file on demand, and it triggers this notification. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Folder Owner set download notification by selecting "Override default settings for this folder and all subfolders" 2. Opening a file through Drive, which downloads the file on…

  12. Add "disable for select users" as a Box Drive Mark for Offline option

A global Box customer is looking to disable MFO (Marking for Offline) for a selected users.
This would be a "symmetrical" counter-option to the existing "enable for select users", and also similar to how some other features can be managed within Box Admin Console, making the MFO options more consistent with broader Box experience for admins.

  14. Add Support for Windows Server OS

I see this has been posted int he past, but am going to post again. With the current Remote Work situation the ability to run Box Drive on a Windows Server OS would be extremely useful. We have over 1,000 employees working remotely and collaborating, and those files need to make their way back to our main storage. The best way to do that is by syncing box drive and using a 3rd party application to manage and move the files. This would ideally be done on a server based system for reliability.

  15. install and syncronize box in a chosen folder

    1. I am windows user. I wanted to install box and syncronize my box files in my local D: drive, because my C: drive is full. Surprisingly, the installation process of Box app does not provide such an option (of selecting which drive to install Box to). It by default is installed on C: drive . This is very insane. Windows Users can choose to install which drive to install any app.

    2. My C: drive is full, and I want to syncronise everything both in cloud and in local computer, but i cannot do so because C: drive is full, and…

  16. Box Drive: Change icons for syncing vs. synced files

I honestly think the best solution is to have a smaller icon when the file is synced, and have a larger icon when the file is syncing. You’re assuming the file is synced at all times, so no need for a giant icon to say “yes, it’s synced”.

However when the file is syncing is when there could be an actual issue, so you could make that icon large to say “hey, this file isn’t up to date here, give us a second.

  19. Ability to lock files from within application once they're open

Our users would like the ability to lock a file once they have already opened a file in Box Edit/Box Drive/Box for Office.

They would like the ability to do this within the document without having to navigate back to the webapp or sync to lock the file.

Box for Office automatically locks a file when it’s being worked on. We don’t currently have plans to do this or Box Edit.

  20. offline files and selective sync

I would like to see the ability to mark files and folders for local or offline storage. Currently box drive allows for only the folder to be marked offline or downloaded locally. When I don't need to have a file downloaded anymore there is not a way for me to mark them offline. I have tried marking the folder offline but that doesn't work to make the files I want offline. Additionally, this would cause all files that I do want locally to become offline. Dropbox currently has the ability to selectively sync the files and or folders that I…
