Define version limits by user, folder or file
We like the ability to set the number of file versions per user, folder or file
7 votesHi, this is an interesting idea, however, we would be worried about the configuration complexity of adding differing version limits below the enterprise level.

External User Activity
Can we get a report of external users and their activity (ie, how many times they've logged in, more importantly, the last time they logged in, etc)? We can do this for internal users but not external users.

Provide notification when auto-provisioning of user accounts fails because a Box account already exists.
We use auto-provisioning to create Box accounts in our Box managed enterprise environment. When a user is added to a specific group in Azure AD, this kicks off something that creates the account in our Box environment. However, it is possible that users have an existing lite Box account from former roles. When this happens the auto provisioning fails without warning due to a duplicate account. We would like to be notified when this happens. We can see the error in the Azure logs but those are not easy to use for alerting due to sheer size and think…

Replace the Last Login on the User Details report with Last Activity
Replace the Last Login on the User Details report with Last Activity. It is very misleading to have Last Login, most people will assume this means if the last login was over a year ago, they aren't active.

Allow user activity report to be filtered by affected user
We are unable to run the user activity report due the scale of their enterprise (15,000+ users).
Please run this report (particularly to determine collaboration permission changes) for a given affected users.
This would allow us to get the information of interest to them rather than a enterprise wide report that is almost unmanageable to filter after being run.

New User-Level Field: "User Description" (Free Text)
Other applications (like Slack) have a user-level free text field (similar to a User Description / Information field) where admins or users can enter free text to describe the user.
1 voteThis is not currently planned. We will revisit this with additional use case data and customer requests.

Who invited a user?
Bring back the column under Managed Users that tells you who invited a user. That easy bit of information is no longer there. Now you have to run a report that takes forever and may or may not give you the information.

If a user locks the file, it should be only unlockable by that user and an administrator, not other Editors
Other users unlocking defeats the purpose of locking in the first place.
30 votesThanks for the suggestion! This is not currently planned, but we will keep it in mind for future enhancements of the product.

Want to be able to specify the number of times each user uses BoxAI
Want to be able to specify the number of times each user uses BoxAI
Box AI can currently limit the number of users who use it, but it is not possible to limit the number of times it can be used.
This is very inconvenient. I would like to be able to specify users who can only use Box AI up to 20 times, or specify users who can use Box AI more than 20 times.BoxAI
43 votes -
Managed user
We need the ability to purge user accounts from the "managed users" without deleting them, or "waiting room" of the "managed users".
After inviting users with email addresses from the same domain to collaborate, they are automatically added to the "managed users" list when user accounts are created. If we do not want them to be the "managed users", we must delete their user accounts, as there is no action to purge them from the "managed users".1 vote -
Option to prevent Drive from launching on startup by user
We are preparing to deploy Box Drive to our users using the Windows .msi. However we've found that after installation, the Box Drive window opens automatically for every user, every time they log into the computer. For users on a shared system who are not using Box, this means dismissing the window every login.
We'd like an option for Box Drive installation to not have the client launch automatically for all users. Or post-installation, allow the user to tell Box Drive not to open automatically for them. If the Box Drive client needs to run at…8 votes -
When user share folder/file to group, please be able to use copy and paste.
When user share folder/file to group, please be able to use copy and paste.
When share folder/file to Group, if group name includes "@" and user copy and paste that group name to 'Invite People', it is judged mail address not group name.
So, user cannot invite that group. If user enter group name and select from suggestion, they can invite group normally.

Managed user differentiator other than domain
Different attribute outside of domain to determine if truly a managed user. We have different orgs that share email domains but are truly are different orgs with different budgets and approvals. Our org does not want to pay for other users that are not within our organization.
4 votesThis is not a priority at the moment given our roadmap commitments. We will reconsider with additional demand.

Service Accounts should be rate limited differently than user accounts
Currently, when you use a service account to access Box API's, in order to get access to content you need to use the As-User header "impersonate" users in order to access the files that are owned by then.
So if you are doing something like using a service account to crawl through all the files in a folder in box, you would need to use the As-User header in order to impersonate a user who owns/has access to each file while doing it.
But there is a huge problem here is that the rate limiting is done…

Ability to filter by external user on the UAR
Now that external user information is included in the user activity report (UAR) it would be great to have the ability to filter the report to just that one external user. We'd like the ability to filter by the external user's email address, just like we can with managed users. For large enterprises, running an open UAR leads to a very large report that takes time to sort and filter. The ability to filter to a specific user saves a ton of time.

Favorites in Sidebar - Custom User-Defined Sort Order
As of April 2018, Favorites now display directly in the Web App sidebar, sorted alphabetically.
This request is for supporting custom user-defined sort order for that list (being able to drag items within the sidebar itself to determine the sort order).

Provide API Access for file upload to the 'file request' URL. The existing file upload API does not provide a method for anonymous uploads
Provide API Access for file upload to the 'file request' URL. The existing file upload API does not provide a method for anonymous uploads to a 'file request' link. Both the bearer token and folder id are not known and are not available within the URL.
a possible solution would be to implement an 'OPTIONS' call to the URL to return a throw-away bearer token and the folder id so that the existing file upload API calls can be used.3 votes -
Allow the option to transfer collaboration permissions when deleting a user.
Allow the option to transfer collaboration permissions when deleting a user. Currently, when deleting a user, it only gives us the option to transfer ownership of files and folders they own. But if a user were to undergo a name change, we would have to manually give their new Box account the same collaborative permissions as their old Box account (Co-owner, Editor, Viewer Uploader, Previewer Uploader, Viewer, Previewer, Uploader).
When deleting their Box account, Co-owner, Editor, Viewer Uploader, Previewer Uploader, Viewer, Previewer, and Uploader permissions currently do not transfer over.
