  3. Add filter function to Event API to limit the result by specifying a path collection

Event API result is a list of all updated files in an "entire" site.
For enterprise use-cases, the volume of this returned data is inevitably very large.
Thus, even if a part of site needs to be monitored, the network bandwidth is consumed unnecessarily and it casues the performance issue.
Could you add a filter function to Event API so that the API returns only events related to the files in the specified path collection?

  4. How can I set an opening date and time for files?

I need to open files progressively for a class. There is an expiration setting but not an opening setting. It would be ideal to have both an opening and expiration date/time setting.

  5. Option to default new Office files to web editor without disabling Box Edit

Currently, when Box Edit is installed/enabled, newly created Word/Excel files in Box open automatically in the desktop app, interrupting workflows for users who prefer the web editor (like me at SMRU Consulting). Disabling Box Edit fixes this but removes desktop editing entirely, which isn't ideal.

    Requested Feature:

Add a setting to default newly created Office files to open in Microsoft 365 for Web, while keeping Box Edit active for existing files or manual "Open in desktop" choices.

Bonus: A prompt on creation ("Open in web / desktop?") for flexibility.

    Why It Matters:

Streamlines workflows for web-first users without sacrificing Box…

  6. Data files that are textual are not identified as text for preview

I'd LOVE for the ability at the enterprise level to be able to say that ANY file with a given extension should be previewed as if it were this other extension. This would both add extensions as WELL as override the Box.com default content type logic.

    examples:

myCustomersOrderData.edi should be previewed as is it were a text file, so .edi as .txt

    .json as .txt
    .funky as .md

I say at the enterprise level so this works for manually uploaded files. However, if an appropriate attribute could be sent in the file upload|modify|version APIs, that would be better than…

  7. Need multiple options for 2-factor authentication

Please allow multiple options to receive a 2-factor authentication code. If I were to lose access to my cell phone or change the phone #, then I would be unable to receive a code via SMS and be locked out of Box.

In addition, please ensure the options other than 2FA code via SMS actually are viable options. Right now, the authenticator option doesn't work - no QR code is generated by Box for me to scan with my phone. The e-mail option also doesn't work - I keep getting an error message that the default e-mail is invalid ...…

  8. View is broken after binning multiple items - needs to force a refresh?

    I hit a bug:

I had 33 files in a folder. (There are 20 per page). I selected the first 20 (one page of files) and clicked Bin to move them to the bin.

The files went to the bin and once the process completed, the view showed "There are no items in this folder."

...but there are - there are still 13 files in the folder!

Hitting F5 to refresh didn't fix this.
Hitting "Next Page" took me to a "There are no items in this folder" page with no page navigation buttons. (I guessing this is because…

  9. Allow Users to 'Remove' all files from their BOX Drive as a right-click command

It would be nice, instead of logging out of BOX Drive on my personal computer to 'remove' all files on my personal device (so anything that was cached or downloaded). Instead of having to 'log out' of the BOX drive app.

  10. Open read-only in BoxDrive

Users with viewer privileges are not allowed to update files, but in the case of files that are updated simply by opening them, such as .xls files, an error will occur each time the file is opened in BoxDrive.
Is it possible to open files from BoxDrive in read-only mode?

Box Drive doesn’t currently provide a built-in “read-only open” option. Instead, whether a file opens in read-only mode depends on the application (Excel, Word, etc.) and the operating system.

Here are a few possible workarounds:

    • Download a local copy and open it outside of Box Drive.
    • Use Box Preview in the web app, which always opens in read-only mode.
    • Adjust application settings (e.g., in Excel you can configure certain files to always open as read-only).
  11. Quarantined Files - View Folder Path

Currently an admin looking at the Quarantine section of Content Manager is not shown any information about where the file was attempted to be uploaded, which is also where the file will exist if the admin clicks 'restore' (approves) the file.

REQUEST: Provide location information for quarantined files such as the folder path, owner, uploader, etc. This information is already in the policy violation email that's sent to admins, so it should also be available in Content Manager.

We are not currently making any vast improvements on quarantine in the short term. This is still helpful. We will reconsider it when working on this feature area.

  12. search option on content inside shared link files set to View Only Mode.

  13. File size limits for File Request uploads

We have tried using the File Request to encourage our supply chain to upload files directly from our filing system on Box instead of using unathorised file transfer services, however it frequently fails due to file size. I note in the FAQ that the maximum file upload size is limited by that permitted by the content submitter - it would be more useful if the file upload size was based by that permitted by our account as the organisation requesting the file. As the File Request service also doesn't permit uploading of folders, this often means our content submitters have…

  14. Auto Classification policy does not work when folders are copied or moved

We would like to improve the behavior so that the auto-classification policy works correctly for files within the folder, even if the folder is copied or moved.

    【Details】
Currently, the Auto Classification policy works correctly when files are copied or moved, but not when folders are copied or moved.
For example, if a ".dwg" file is stored in the "Technical Information" folder, there is an automatic classification policy that assigns the label "Technical Information" (not for external collaboration).
In this case, when a file with a .dwg extension is moved from the "Outside Shared" folder, it is automatically assigned the…

Unfortunately classifying child items upon move/copy operations of the parent folder is not being considered at this time.

  15. Disable the option to open files in local apps, force online apps

My customers would like the option to disable opening files to edit in local applications, they want to force their users to open documents in online applications such as word online.

  16. Opening PDF files using native PDF viewer

Clicking on a PDF should open the PDF in the default PDFviewer (e.g. Bluebeam) instead of previewing the file.

  17. Allow Excel's Shared Workbook feature to work on Box.

Microsoft Excel has a feature called Shared Workbook that allows multiple users to edit Excel file simultaneously and still migrate each modifications into each others' Excel files.

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/about-the-shared-workbook-feature-49b833c0-873b-48d8-8bf2-c1c59a628534

Box doesn't support this type of feature, but Google and Dropbox supports to notify users on (Office) file modification status to provide similar feature / user experience.

While we won’t be building in support for the Shared Workbook feature as requested, we will be providing capabilities in the near-future that will provide more visibility when you open a file that is locked in order to prevent file editing conflicts.

  18. Show date in the file area

In the file area, the most recently uploaded files are shown with a date of yesterday or today. Unfortunately, there is no current date shown on the page for reference. This seems like an easy fix.

  19. Set default file view and sort options by folder (and all sub folders for that folder)

Ideally, let an owner or editor of a folder set the default view (list or grid) and sort order of the files.

The system default appears to be by date the file was updated which is rarely (if ever) what our users want.

Re: view options: For photos especially, the list view is rarely the preferred view.

Additionally, with the grid view, allow the size of the image also be set as a default.

This may not be an admin console enhancement. I think it needs to be a under More when you’re looking a a folder.

  20. Not a fan of the new main screen

Hi - not a fan of the large blue column at the left - it now blocks when I try to do a print screen of files - I could open up a file and print screen the list within that file - now it blocks a good portion of the left side - so I can't see/print screen in formation.
