1. Admin creates an order for the items in a certain folder and when that folder is shared it stays in that order!

   When an admin (such as myself) creates an order for the items in a certain folder, and then that folder is shared, it should stay in that order! I have been coming into serious issues with this situation and I really would like box to be able to fix the glitch. It is very frustrating and I have called and emailed numerous amounts of times complaining about it and no one has done anything. For example, I was in my own account and had 3 things in one folder labeled Promo, Part 1, and Part 2. It was in the correct order when I exited my account, but then when I clicked the shared link as an outside user, it was in the wrong order. I need the items in my folder to stay in the same order that I left them in, so an outside viewer can view them as such. I share my links with hundreds of people in my company and I often run into trouble when they are in the wrong order.

A problem I have is that I have set my "Documents" folder to save to Box "C:\Users\CharlevanRooyen\Box\ITSave\Documents" and it save and sync every thing perfect until I restart or shut town my pc. The next time my pc booted up the file location changed to something ells like "C:\Users\CharlevanRooyen\oldBox2\ITSave\Documents" and it no longer save my files to box automatically. Evert time I start up my pc I need to correct the math by right klick on "Documents" on my pc then select "Properties" then select :Location" then select "Move" then select the correct path, Apply and select "Yes" for do you want to move all the files from the old location to the new location. My management want to save all files to Box by default so that the workforce can use the files and save it on Box again by default to prevent files from being deleted. Basically, we want to save our files directly to Box and not on our company computers to prevent files to be deleted by users and for senior management to have full access to all files on all users. We currently have about 20 users.

3. I'd like to be able to share a link that defaults to open the file in the native app on macOS.

   I'm not sure if this is more related to Box Drive or Box Tools, but it seems like it should be possible to open files in their native app rather than in the browser, or even just to open them in the Finder rather than on the web.

   Some of the reasons:
   1. Lots of people need to know where a file is within the larger heirarchy or get a file path, and it's significantly easier to do that in finder.
   2. Lots of people just don't like having to click the extra few times.
   3. It's frustrating to be logged in to the Box Drive app, but find that due to a restart or a timeout you need to re-sign in on the web, just so you can click a link and have the file open in finder/native app like you wanted in the first place.
   4. I think the ideal implementation from my point of view would be if the Box Drive/Tools app opened a system dialog box that let you choose to open the link in the web, the native app associated with the file type, or in Finder.

4. Enhance Custom Applications for large enterprises

   Concerning "Custom Applications" (Admin Console-->Enterprise Settings-->Apps-->Custom Applications), the limits enforced by Box are entirely too low for a large enterprise.

   --The dashboard for Custom Applications shows "22 of 25 App User licenses used". However, I only see 10 listed on the page. When I click the arrow icon to advance to page 2, I then see two more. So I can only view 12 of the 22 apps.

   --When I click the 3-dot icon to the right of one of the apps to view the menu of actions, then click one of the actions, the view re-positions to the Box Drive section of the page and shows a progress bar in place of the Box Drive "Edit Configuration" button. This is confusing; it gives the visual impression that something with Box Drive is changing.

   --There is a Community article for enabling a custom application (https://community.box.com/t5/How-to-Guides-for-Admins/Enabling-Custom-Built-Applications/ta-p/2188), but no articles (at least none that I could find) for the actions that can be performed on existing applications (View, Reauthorize, Disable, Delete).

5. Let user disable shortcut top menu () or load shortcut menu before files listing

   Hi everyone,

   whenever we user move from one folder to the next, using the web app in a browser, the page load is delayed by the shortcut menu on top. This shortcut menu displays buttons for [Upload][Folder][Word Document][Excel Spreasheet].

   The current implementation is sooo annoying, since these four buttons are loaded on page and after the files listing in the directory. Unfortunately this shifts the file list of the directory down on the page each time.

   This shifting down the file listing on the page is so annoying for browsing directories, since in that time one can't aim for clicking on files with the mouse. So it slows down the directory browsing experience of the user by around a second with each directory change.

   I suggest two solutions:
   1. The menu becomes optional and the user can disable it.
   2. The implementation is changed, so that the shortcut menu is loaded before the file list. In this way the file listing doesn't move down on the page after it is first displayed.

   Looking forward seeing this resolved.

6. Removing Selected Subfolders

   I am a software developer, and I use Box so that I can access my code at work and at home. If there is a folder called Project1 with my solution files in it, the act of opening that solution or building that solution will create both a "bin" and an "obj" folder that both contain several hundred megabytes of data that does not need to be sync'ed. When I stop debugging and change the code to run it again, now I have 2 copies of nearly identical data still being pushed up to the cloud and being downloaded by my other devices.

   Is there any way that I can select Project1 to be sync'ed to the cloud and my PCs but exclude certain folders like 'bin' and 'obj' that do NOT need to be sync'ed?

   I realize that I can turn Box off on my PC while I am developing, but then I often forget to turn it back on for a week or so, which defeats the purpose of having my data sync'ed.

   Your syncing is taking up all of my bandwidth.

7. Issues with Filename Corruption and Large File Download Failures on Box

   I am reaching out regarding two issues I am experiencing when using Box.
   1. Filename corruption when downloading files on Windows
   Files uploaded to Box from macOS are showing corrupted or unreadable filenames when I download them on a Windows PC. The file contents themselves are fine, but the filenames become garbled, making it difficult to identify or manage them.
   This appears to be related to differences in filename encoding between macOS and Windows during the upload/download process.
   2. Large files cannot be downloaded
   Additionally, I am unable to download large files stored in Box.
   When attempting to download files of significant size, the download either fails to start, freezes midway, or results in an error. I have confirmed that my network connection is stable and that there are no local storage issues on my device.
   Could you please help investigate these problems or provide guidance on how to resolve them? I would appreciate any information regarding potential limitations, encoding behaviors, or recommended methods for handling large file downloads.

8. Per-Application Control for AI API

   【Current Behavior】
   The AI API setting in the Admin Console is currently a tenant-wide
   toggle (ON/OFF). Once enabled, all custom applications (both
   Server Authentication and OAuth 2.0 apps) under the enterprise
   can invoke AI API endpoints. There is no mechanism to permit or
   restrict AI API usage on a per-application basis.

   【Problem / Business Impact】
   Because AI API consumption is billable, administrators cannot
   selectively allow AI API access only for specific sanctioned
   applications while blocking others. This creates the following
   risks:

   1. Uncontrolled billing exposure: Any application with AI API scope enabled can trigger consumption that the administrator did not sanction, leading to unexpected charges.
   2. Blocked adoption: To avoid unintended billing, customers are forced to keep AI API disabled at the tenant level, which prevents legitimate, pre-approved applications from leveraging AI API capabilities.
   3. Lack of governance: Administrators have no way to audit or enforce which applications are permitted to consume AI API resources, conflicting with standard enterprise governance requirements.

   As a result, customers who want to pilot AI API with a limited
   scope, or who want to separate billable vs. non-billable
   application usage, cannot proceed.

   【Requested Feature】
   Introduce per-application control for AI API access. Specifically:

   • In the Admin Console (or Developer Console application management), allow administrators to explicitly allow or deny AI API access for each individual custom application.
   • The setting should override the tenant-wide toggle, or at minimum be evaluated in addition to it, so that administrators can maintain a default-deny posture while whitelisting specific applications.
   • Provide visibility (e.g., via Admin Console or reporting) into which applications are currently permitted to consume AI API.

   【現状の挙動】

9. ”Priority" lock feature (There is no way to open an Office file that is being edited online in Box Edit.)

   Currently, if a user has a file open in OfficeOnline, that file cannot be opened in Box Edit.
   If I want to perform operations that are only possible in the local Excel application (e.g. sheet or macro operations) and a colleague comes home while editing in Online, my work comes to a halt.

   Can you please implement a priority lock function that works as follows.
   1. click "Priority Lock" on a file that someone is editing online.
   2. Only the latest version of the target file is copied to the same folder as a separate file with "(1)". After that, the result of Online editing will be overwritten by the file with "(1)".
   3. The file is locked (normal lock) so that only the user who clicked "Priority Lock" can open the file in Box Edit.
   4. the results of edits made via Box Edit will be overwritten in the original file.
   5. when a user who was editing online resumes or exits online editing, a dialog box will appear informing the user that the file has been saved as a separate file because a user performed the "priority lock" operation.

   I think this method could be implemented by adding functionality on the Box side, not by changing the functionality on the OfficeOnline side.

    I would like each user to be able to set whether or not to display the message.

    Since the accumulated amount is displayed as a message, some users may have more than 200 messages displayed, and the messages will be displayed periodically until they are resolved.
    Since it will take time to resolve the error, I would like you to add a function setting to turn off the message display. Also, the reason why errors occur frequently is because the automatic locking and unlocking of files is done through registry settings, and these settings are not very reliable.

    補足：
    今まで表示されなかったので過去のエラーが蓄積されており、
    その蓄積分も含めてメッセージで表示されるためユーザーによっては表示が200件を超え、解消されるまで定期的に表示されます。
    エラー解消に時間がとられてしまいますので、メッセージの表示をオフにする機能設定を追加して頂きたいです。またエラーが頻発する理由としては、ファイルの自動ロック・解除をレジストリ設定で行っており、その設定の確実性が高くない為です。

12. Prefix, Suffix, and related fields in Box Folder Names.

    Let's be honest, at the end of the day, people sign up for Box for cloud space and organization. One very big pain point for my company is the inability to apply related fields and/or prefix/suffix's to our folder names. Let's take a very simple folder structure

    Parent Folder |Folder A, Folder B | Folder A - 1, Folder A - 2, Folder A - 3 |

    Currently, if I wanted to append the {Parent Folder} to each folder within the folder structure, I would have to go and rename each folder individually.

    This idea thread would solve this problem. This solution would give the user the power to Apply a prefix or a suffix to a folder structure. It would be awesome if we could use API fields such as {Created Date} or {Parent Folder} as examples. Additionally, the user should be able to apply just plain text. For example, As a user, if I want to append ABCDEF - (original folder/file name) then I should be able to do this.

    This idea comes from a real life situation where a much more complex folder structure was templated out and all 50 folders for 25 entities had to be renamed individually because of the inability to simply apply a suffix or prefix in Box. Please upvote and prioritize this idea!

14. Avoid signed document shared link expiration notifications on internal-only sign requests

    Whenever a document sent via Box Sign is completed, all recipients receive an email containing a shared link to the document. This shared link expires 2 weeks later, generating a "this link is about to expire" for all of the same recipients. These notifications can be annoying, and moreover don't clearly state that it is a signed document link that is expiring (it is just a generic notification).

    Our company often sends documents for signature between internal recipients only, who can always access their documents by logging into Box and finding them in the My Requests section (or in their My Signed Documents folder).

    To reduce pointless notifications, it would be great if Box Sign would generate a normal, non-shared link in the Box Sign completion email for internal users. This would force the user to log in to access (acceptable), and would also avoid the shared link expiry notification as no shared link would be created.

    It would be great if this was an organization-level setting, but also OK would be an option on the sign request itself that the sender could enable.

15. Rethink how customer feedback is handled for support tickets

    I open A LOT of support tickets with Box as I'm the primary escalation point for support in my enterprise.

    After every Box support ticket is solved and closed by the Box tech, I get an automated "how did we do" survey email.

    I get that you guys want customer feedback but forcing it down customers' throats for EVERY ticket that is solved is not the right approach. They just become repetitive and get to the point of being annoying.

    I've found a solution to get around this annoyance by creating rules to scan for common subject line text and deleting these messages before they land in my inbox. However, the fact that I, as a customer, am forced to find "workarounds" is telling that your survey process is more if a hindrance than a helpful way to improve support. And, for this reason, this leads me to provide NO feedback.

    I think a more professional way to request for feedback would be through:
    1) Rather than being reactive (after tickets are closed) being more proactive by having your VP of Customer Success send out a generalized support survey emails on a quarterly basis to gauge how your support techs are doing and places for improvement possibly with an incentive attached.
    2) Instead of asking for support at the closure of every ticket, adding a "feedback" section on your ticketing center (via the web gui) for customers to provide ad-hoc feedback there for tickets WITHOUT getting hounded with emails asking them to do so. Let's be honest, you're probably not going to get much feedback this way, but at least you're not going to also annoy customers.

16. I want to use box ai to train my own ai models

    I imagine a world where I can create a model and associate it with a metadata set. I think it would work like this.

    Create New AI Model. I would put it right next to metadata creation. Let's say I create an AI model called "Analyst Answer". I would associate Analyst Answer with a metadata template.

    In the AI Model I would pick the metadata template and then I would assign Independent and Dependent variables from the MetaData Template.

    For example,

    Independent Metadata Field -

    Financial Input 1 (Net Worth) - Tag as Independent
    Financial Input 2 (Income) - Tag as Independent
    Financial Input 3 (Annual Performance) - Tag as Independent
    Financial Input 4 (Age) - Tag as Independent

    Output - (Analyst Commentary) - Tag as Dependent

    I could handkey in those metadata values or use Box metadata extraction to fill them in.

    I could do a search based on the files with that metadata and click select "train model".

    Now, when I upload a new document of that metadata type it would run through the ai use metadata extraction to fill in the independent variables and then based on the model fill in the dependent or AI model value.

    A way to leverage Box documents for models without having to pull things in and out.

17. Render InDesign files previews with high quality

    When Box creates a preview of Indesign .indd files, placed images are shown in low quality only. This prevents to run correction and approval processes with customers as some image formats aren't rendered at all (white images area), especially images with transparencies and vector images like .ai, .eps, but also .psd.
    We are an ad agency and we depend on properly rendered previews.
    Is there a way to render the previews in correct quality and resolution without beeing forced to create a PDF instead for approval?

    i can see two options:
    1) create the preview with InDesign server. In this case the renderer would need to run in the logged in user context in order to access the linked images in the Box file system
    2) provide an add-in for Indesign which automatically creates a preview on the client computer during the file save process which would be used as a Box preview. This would also solve the issue if custom fonts are used which are not installed on the Box platform.

18. Invite all users who have sent an email to the email address associated with the folder

    currently, Co-admins are manually inviting users to folders.
    Inviting is generated for the number of projects, it takes man-hours each time, so we want to make it easy to invite.

    For example, we would like to have a mechanism that can invite all users who have sent an email to the email address associated with the folder.

    [How to use]
    Generate an email address associated with the folder
    (It is assumed to be something like an email address for uploading emails)
    Give this email address to the user we want to invite
    Each user will send an email to this email address

19. Correct the wording of 'Prior Versions'

    Your Website states that:
    The maximum number of prior file versions you can access corresponds to your Box account type:

    Personal Free - 1 Version

    This simply isn't true, and I have argued this in a ticket and with a live agent, but the statement implies you can access a prior version of your file.

    Definition of Prior is "earlier in time or order" so this makes your statement false as you cannot access anything but the CURRENT version in the Free version.

    I would suggest the wording:
    The maximum number of file versions you can access corresponds to your Box account type:

    Personal Free - current version only

    Furthermore, make the web access more clear about this, as when you look at a file it says there are 2 versions with their dates, but in a Free account, when you try to retrieve the older file you get the error
    "Server error
    File versions could not be retrieved.
    No prior versions are available for this file"
    Which leads you (like I did) to raise a ticket to find out why!

    Even better, allow Free account to have access to one prior version, like some of your rivals!

20. Fix missing Access-Control-Allow-Origin header for CORS 401 requests

    This relates to the upload files API endpoint (https://developer.box.com/reference/post-files-content/) but likely applies to other endpoints as well.

    When making a call to the above endpoint via CORS, you provide a Bearer token to the request. This token is used to identify the box account to make the request on behalf of, which is then used to return an Access-Control-Allow-Origins header configured to that box account's CORS whitelisted domains.

    In the case of a successful request to the above endpoint, the OPTIONS preflight request returns the Access-Control-Allow-Origin header with the request origin set. The actual POST request then returns a 201 with Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *.

    In the case of a domain mismatch, I assume the Access-Control-Allow-Origin header would not be present on the POST request, causing a CORS failure.
     
    However, if the token has expired or is otherwise invalid, the API cannot identify which Box account to run as. The OPTIONS request still returns the requesting origin as the Access-Control-Allow-Origin header, however, the POST request returns a 401 status but no Access-Control-Allow-Origin header.

    I assume the above is because the valid token is used to identify whether the CORS request is from a valid domain. The consequence of this is that browser CORS protection kicks in, and the resulting 401 error cannot be read, even though it originated from a valid domain.

    Two proposed solutions:
    1. Allow the requestor to specify the account id (or some other way of identifying the box account) in the request. The app can then use this id instead of the token to determine the appropriate CORS domains. This will, of course, allow unauthenticated requests to trigger a CORS check for a particular account. However, this is standard for CORS. The CORS layer is designed to trigger before other parts of the request.
    2. Always return the Access-Control-Allow-Origin header for 401 requests, either as "*" or as the requestor origin. This of course basically exempts 401 requests from CORS protection, so should likely be only enabled as an optional setting in your box account.

    This relates to the upload files API endpoint (https://developer.box.com/reference/post-files-content/) but likely applies to other endpoints as well.
