Enable admin settings to customize new user onboarding setup flow
The new user onboarding displayed at https://{DOMAIN}.app.box.com/onboarding/setupflow should be customizable.
Currently new users are guided through a one time onboarding set of screens in the web app. These are Box branded and while they personally greet the user are not otherwise configurable.
This feature should be opt-in, easily disabled by CLI or API (e.g. show-onboarding: False), or allow for customization.
We can currently enable the promotion of Box Mobile, Notes, etc. in the Admin Console. This would be similar to implement and appropriate on the User Settings console tab.
Right now the final screen displays a prompt for the …

Like External users, make a remove user from all content for Managed users.
Like External users, make a remove user from all content for Managed users. So we can remove a managed user from all content instead of removing them from each folder individually.

Pulling file-level user activity reports in bulk
I am trying to run a user activity report in Box. What I am hoping to see is which users accessed a set of files during a certain period of time.
I ran the User Activity report in Reports against the parent folders that I was hoping to review, the activity log that came back only shows actions taken on the parent folders, no activity is shown for any of the files within the folders.
Support has confirmed that there is no way to run this report against the sub-folders and sub-files of the folders selected.
Having this functionality…

Delete User without transferring content when using Retention Policy
【Background】
When a Retention Policy is active and I try to delete a user that does not have a content that is under retention policy, it is required to transfer their content to another user.【Request】
When the user that does not hold an item that is not under retention policy, I would like to have the user deleted without transferring their content. This is because we are currently using an ecosystem called Hakonnect, which manages users, but it returns an error when trying to delete a user with retention policy on.

Enable End Users to Apply Existing Retention Policies to Their Content
Currently, only administrators can assign retention policies to content in Box. This central control is important for compliance, but it also creates workflow bottlenecks when end users need to apply retention to content immediately for governance, regulatory, or project-specific reasons.
Allowing end users to apply pre-approved, administrator-created retention policies or templates to their own content would:
Empower teams to self-govern content in line with company compliance standards.
Reduce admin overhead and delays.
Ensure governance rules are applied at the point of content creation, rather than after-the-fact by admins.

Limit the amount of data a user can download to prevent data theft by employees.
Limit accidental or intentional bulk downloads.
An ex-employee intentionally or accidentally connected his Network Attached Storage device to his Box account, and it downloaded big chunks of our Box data. We want to prevent very large amounts of data (client work and IP) from being downloaded by users, for example, within a logged-in session, within a set timeframe or by the size of the folder (ie. large folders over a specific size containing folders).
This could be set per user with an enterprise-level default eg. 5GB. If someone tries to bulk download, the admin is altered. Users can…

Custom error message for disabled user
Currently, if the disabled user accesses box, it shows “Disabled by administrator” and advises them to contact “administrator” only. But there are the possibilities that administrator misses these kind of emails (i.e. Out of office situation). So we would like to add "please contact your administrator or 'co-admin'" for this error message.
Or, allow the admin to modify this message directly would be the best option.6 votes -

Delete user without transferring content when using legal hold
【Background】
1. When "Legal Hold" is ON but no "Retention Policy" set
2. When I try to delete a user that is not related to the legal hold above, they need to transfer the content to another user.【Request】
Since it is a user that is not affected by the "Legal Hold", I would like to be able to use that user without transferring the content, which is the behaviour when there is no Governance setting.3 votes -
Metadata field for a user name - ability to @mention or tie a metadata field to a specific user
Similar to comments or tasks, it would be helpful to be able to autofill and insert a user's name in a metadata field.
There are a lot of use cases here, e.g. establishing the content owner since oftentimes that is different from the folder owner and not easily discernible or searchable.
Current workaround would be to use the text metadata field, which leaves room for user error, typos, or using different variations on people's names. A dropdown list helps with that but isn't a feasible option if you're choosing from a large set of users.

Export owned and collaborated files & folder tree by user
When exporting user’s Files & Folder tree, it only shows the users owned folders. It should show all the content the user has in their account, including collaborated folders. even after selecting a specific user.

Add the ITEM ID to the User Activity report (when activity is against a file or folder) in order to join to Files and Folder report on ID
Add the item id to the User Activity report (when activity is against a file or folder). This would allow the User Activity events to be joined to the Files and Folders report data in order to report on activity against files and folders. An example report would be a list of all activity (Downloads, Previews, etc...) for a specific Box account. Currently the User Activity report only shows the activity that a specific user has done, but not what activities have been done against the content owned by a specific user. This would allow for a wide range…

I want to restrict the installation of the desktop application by user
Is it possible to add a feature to the management console that allows me to limit the installation of desktop applications (Box Drive, Box Note, etc.) per managed user?
Once this is achieved, there will be more control over which desktop applications a corporate user can install.

Show Affected File Details in Exported User Activity Report for Removed Collaborations
When running a User Activity Report on Removed Collaborations, you are able to see the granular file name details on the Box website when selecting "View" and hovering over the affected user.
Please include this in the report output that is exported when selecting "Run" as currently the report only shows "Parent Folder" which is misleading when restoring access as there are cases when the collaborator only had permission to a specific file inside the parent folder causing issues when restoring access for users that were offboarded and then onboarded again due to internal processes.
This will also…

Change the Last Login on the User Details report with Last Activity
The Last Login date of the User Details report doesn't show the real last login time of each users.
As it's misleading, it'better to add the Last activity date instead of Last Login.6 votes -
Prevent installation of .msi Box Edit if per-user .exe is already installed
Users get access to Box before their IT team deploys Box Edit.
End users start using Box Edit by downloading/installing the .exe installer.
Then their IT team deploys the .msi version. This results in Box Edit issues (usually "Box Edit does not support this file type" errors) and requires their IT team to clean up the per-user installs.
19 votesWe’ve already resolved this issue. The new MSI install should fail in this case.

Delete content option when delete user in new display
When deleting a user in the new display, the Delete content option is not present anymore.
I recommend to keep this option to prevent a forced data transfer for each deleted user.3 votes -

Visual indicator when Box Canvas user is just a viewer, not editor
When using Canvas as a viewer, the user may try to vote on the sticky notes, or try to locate the toolbar, and think that something is broken, when in reality they are looking for features available to editors only.
We should consider adding some visual indicator of the "view only" status e.g. a banner or a badge at the top, an icon over which a user can hover over to get more info, or an icon by the cursor arrow to indicate editing is disabled.
