  1. HD Video Preview: Allow User to Download the Lower Quality (720P, 480P, etc.) Renditions of Video Files

With HD Preview, users can choose the quality of the video in the Preview (based on network/bandwidth speed, etc.), but users cannot download those downsampled/lower quality 'renditions'.

REQUEST: Allow users to download the lower quality renditions of video files on Box. For example, I upload a 1080P file, and I can choose to Preview the video in reduced 720P or 480P quality, and I can also choose to download those same renditions if I'd like. Think of it like adding a 'which quality/size output would you like?' option added after clicking 'download' for a video file.

    Thank you for the suggestion!

Providing a way to create a copy of an HD video, but at a lower quality so that it is easily downloadable is a low priority for the team.

It’s a niche use case at the moment and there’s a workaround (use a tool to downscale the video and upload that in addition to the HD video into Box).

  2. Add notes at timestamps of audio and video

Enable users to add timestamp notes (annotations, comments) on files with audio or video. For example: the ability to add a note at a certain point in time in the video, especially for feedback purposes.

  3. Aspect ratio of files imported by Box Sign

Aspect ratio of files imported by Box Sign
When loading PowerPoint or Word into Box Sign, the aspect ratio may be changed and converted to PDF.
I would like it to be converted to PDF with the aspect ratio of the original file.

    <Box Signで読み込んだファイルの縦横比について>
    Box Signで、PowerPointやWordを読み込んだ際に、縦横比が変更された状態でPDFに変換されることがある。
    元ファイルの縦横比を保ったままPDF化されるようにしてほしい。

  4. We would like to make only files with a specific metadata template assigned eligible for publication in Hubs.

When publishing a folder to Hubs, all files under the target folder are published, which quickly exceeds the file limit for using Box AI for Hubs.

When publishing a folder, I want to filter and publish only the necessary files that have unique metadata (e.g., contracts, proposals, etc.) under that folder to the Hub, so that Box AI can be used more efficiently.

  6. Show message trail for shared files

It would be nice to have a record of the messages I've sent when sharing a file.

  7. Directly copy files from Salesforce's native file storage to Box via the Box Folder Component which is present on a record

Be able to drag and drop files stored in Salesforce's native file storage into the Box for Salesforce LWC to save the file down from Salesforce into the dedicated Box folder for the record.

  8. Make the problem files screen more usable

Make problem files hyperlinked back to the Web App so users can easy click to take a look at the document on box.com.

It's not always clear whether a problematic file exists only on my desktop, only on Box, or both. Clearer signals about that would be appreciated too.

  9. New Files take 10 minutes to appear in the search (Content Explorer)

It takes ~10 minutes for a newly added file to appear in the search of the Content Explorer UI Element. In the meantime, if you attempt to search for that file based on the name, it displays no results, making it look like a bug. It can take even longer if the servers are busy (it took ~20 minutes for a file I uploaded to appear in a search one time)

Please look for ways to reduce the turnaround on this. A suggestion: the file should be available to search by name right away, if it takes ~10 minutes to…

  10. Increase size of left-side menu on Home screen

The left-side menu on the Home screen is too narrow and cuts off the names of folders/files saved under My Collections/Favorites.

Users should be able to set whatever width is needed for the menu.

We are making the overall Box Web App responsive so that users can get the information they need to engage with content effectively instead of improving the UX of each component piecemeal.

  11. Whitelisting file types in Malicious Content scanning in Box Shield

We are currently seeing a large number of non-malicious files being marked by Deep Scan as malicious, resulting in a lot of false positives. These are files such as .gif or .doc. The primary way to reduce the false positive rate would be to improve Deep Scan's scanning capability. However, I think it would also be beneficial to be able to exclude certain file types that are unlikely to include malware (e.g. .gif) from being scanned.

  13. Improve the Level of Fidelity of Text Files Preview in Box's Web App

Can Box please improve the level of fidelity of text files preview in Box's Web App? We have reports that are generated as text files, and these reports are formatted (with spaces) so the information is readable and consistent. Currently, our users have kept providing us with feed back that they are having a hard time using Box's file preview when looking at these reports because Box file preview does not keep the format they have, and as result these reports look messy and sometimes borderline unreadable. Most of our users just have opted to download these reports to…

  14. External files are displayed in Content Manager

The External Collaboration Report outputs folders and files that are invited from outside as "external folder" and "external file".
The Content Manager only displays external folders, which is not consistent.
Therefore, we would like the external folders to be displayed in the Content Manager as well.

  15. Export input metadata from file upload forms

It would be nice to be able to export a CSV of input metadata during a file upload request.

For example, if I create a metadata template and add those attributes as fields to my file upload form and the uploader inputs their name, email, and other requested details into those fields, I'd like to be able to export the data to a CSV for the folder they uploaded their files to and see columns for each field on the form (including attributes from the metadata template). It would be nice if the export could contain fields on the form…

  16. If I drag folder directly from my PC to Box, some files in the folder cannot be uploaded

If I drag folder directly from my PC to Box (webpage), some files in the folder cannot be uploaded. I find this problem persist and happen more than once. Why?

This is annoying because after I upload a folder, I need to check manually whether all files in that folder has been correctly uploaded. "Upload folder" function become useless.

  17. Dragging files or folders out of BOX makes a copy

With the recent update to BOX Drive, when you move something from BOX to your computer it removes it from BOX. It used to make a copy by default. We use BOX as a shared file server and this change allows for accidental deletion.

Can you please add the ability to make this copy rather than move the file, only when moving out of BOX onto the computer or an outside volume?

  18. Add comments to different versions of files

Box has version control (it essentially stores every update of a file, i.e. saving the file), however without adding comments it still hard to use it as an actual version control system. Is there a possibility to add comments to file version?

  19. Box Drive Sync Delay Indicator

Box Drive is supposed to mirror the files on the server. But we experience delays of five minutes to over an hour between when we complete an upload to Box and when other users can see the file in Box Drive. We end up having to use the web portal more frequently to download files rather than waiting for them to appear, which creates version issues and nullifies the most attractive feature of Box Drive. The old Box Sync software used red or green dots to indicate if a file had synced. Is there a way to add such an…

Thanks for the suggestion. Typically updates between box.com and Box Drive should happen very quickly. If they are not, we’d recommend filing a support ticket in case there is an issue.

  20. Metrics for tracking most oft-accessed files on a Box Drive shared among a team, department, etc.

OneDrive's tallying of the number of times particular files are accessed and by whom helped direct organization efforts for cloud storage and understand staff behavior. The Box Drive does not have a similar quantitative feature, as far as I know. Possible to create such a feature, to track who, when, and how often particular files and folders are used by staff permitted access? Thank you!
